Back to Orlando we go in our continuing planDisney Pocket Guide series, and this time we are headed to Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower. The iconic A-frame resort is the home of not only Disney Legend Mary Blair’s 90-foot-tall spectacular mural, but it is also the location where the Resort Monorail actually travels through the classic hotel.
Location and the ease of the use of the Resort Monorail certainly make this a favorite resort for many, but the planDisney panelists have close to 71 more reasons why they enjoy calling this property home during their Walt Disney World Resort vacations.
Room Accommodations
When looking for a wide variety of room types, look no further than Disney’s Contemporary Resort and Bay Lake Tower. In Disney’s Contemporary Resort, the Main Tower and Garden Wings can accommodate up to five adults. Views vary from Standard Views to Theme Park Views. This resort also offers Club Level rooms which include suites that can sleep up to eight adults.
Looking for more room in perhaps a villa? This can be found in Bay Lake Tower. Here guests can enjoy Deluxe Studios that sleep up to four adults, as well as One-Bedroom Villas that sleep up to five adults, Two-Bedroom Villas that sleep up to nine adults, and there are even Three-Bedroom Grand Villas that sleep up to 12 people.
planDisney Tip: If your heart is set on a Theme Park View, make your reservations early as Theme Park View rooms are limited. And while that view is amazing, we can’t say enough about the view of the Seven Seas Lagoon where you can watch the Electrical Water Pageant from your room!
Dining
Some of Walt Disney World Resort’s most popular restaurants are located at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Chef Mickey’s, which is open for breakfast and dinner, is the perfect place to not only enjoy a fantastic meal but also the place to wave at Mickey and his pals as they move throughout the restaurant.
Looking for a Quick Service location? Don’t miss Contempo Café. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, this restaurant offers Mobile Ordering Service. It is a great location for grabbing something to take back to your room or taking the time to relax in their dining area and watch the Resort Monorail go breezing by.
One of the resort’s newest restaurants is Steakhouse 71. Located near the main entrance, this restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This casual steakhouse, which features American fare, will have you trying options that offer a nod to Walt Disney himself. Dining here for breakfast? Be sure to try Walt’s Prime Rib Hash.
planDisney Tip: If you can save room for dessert at lunch or dinner, try the Steakhouse 71 Chocolate Cake; its 15 layers represent the 15 stories of the Contemporary Resort!
And before we move on, we would be remiss if we didn’t mention the classic California Grill. Currently offering a 50th Anniversary Celebration Menu, guests will enjoy a three-course tasting experience that gives a nod to the past while looking ahead to the future. It is a must-try for sure.
Recreation
Activities for all can be found at this resort. From Movies Under the Stars to Campfire Activities and even Specialty Cruises! Guests can rent motorized boats as well as cabanas at Feature Pool and Bay Lake Pool. Speaking of pools, there are two pools located at the Contemporary Resort, the Feature Pool, and the Bay Lake Pool. The Bay Cove Pool is located at Bay Lake Tower, key access is required and can only be used by Bay Lake Tower guests.
