A Historical Celebration

Herb’s 101st birthday celebration began with a journey down Main Street U.S.A. and seeing Cinderella Castle with his family. They then enjoyed a special viewing of the legendary Festival of Fantasy Parade, where they got to see beloved Disney characters including Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.

“It’s a wish that is better than any wish I’ve ever had,” said Herb, after watching the Festival of Fantasy Parade. “To me, the important thing is family and they are here. It’s all I could ask for.”

“My father is a great guy, he was a serviceman, but he was also a great father, husband, and grandfather,” said Herbert’s daughter, Susan. “Thanks to Disney and how they honored him. The parade was great, he got attention from everybody, which was so sweet.”

As the American Flag retires every day in Magic Kingdom, it’s always a patriotic and reflective moment. It carries an even deeper meaning when we pay tribute to the courage and sacrifices of veterans like Herb.

Our admiration for military veterans, service members, and their families carries on a legacy that began with Walt and Roy O. Disney, who both served their country during World War I.

Not only did we witness a ceremony, but we witnessed history.

Creating Magic for America’s Heroes

Since 1955 at Disneyland and 1971 at Magic Kingdom, daily flag ceremonies have honored U.S. veterans and service members. Each day, a guest is chosen from among the park’s daily visitors. at Magic Kingdom to serve as “U.S. Armed Forces Representative of the Day” during the sunset ceremony.

As America marks its 250th anniversary, we stand committed to sharing the remarkable stories and legacies of U.S. service members, veterans, and their families.

We were honored to salute Herb Maneloveg and pay tribute to his military service to our nation. Please join us in wishing him a very happy 101st birthday!
