This weekend at Star Wars Celebration Europe, the team at ILMxLAB gave fans a peek into how the storytelling of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is further explored with their latest virtual reality hit, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition. Moderated by Holly Frey, who also hosted the Disney Parks: Where Star Wars Comes to Life panel, attendees had the opportunity to hear how the new PlayStation VR2 title was brought to life from creative team members Ronman Ng, CG Supervisor, Jacob Edelen, Lead Experience Designer, and Matthew Wood, who voices Droid Depot owner Mubo in both the VR experience and at the parks.

“The Star Wars galaxy is a special place that we get to craft experiences in,” said Edelen about sharing a behind-the-scenes look at the experience with attendees. “We have some of the most passionate fans, and we love taking them to that galaxy far, far away with the latest immersive technology. The opportunity to step out of the virtual world and share how we created this experience with them in person has been truly amazing.”

As an extension to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the teams at ILMxLAB, Walt Disney Imagineering, and Disney Parks worked together to ensure that the VR experience authentically complements what you’d find when visiting the parks in person. Primarily taking place on Batuu, Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge – Enhanced Edition gives you the opportunity to explore beyond Black Spire Outpost and become the hero of your own story. During your adventure, you’ll get to work with fan-favorite characters like R2-D2 and C-3PO, as well as some familiar faces who you’ll recognize from the parks like Dok-Ondar and Hondo Ohnaka.

“It is our hope with Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge that we can unleash the imagination of our fans to see beyond the horizon and spires that they can physically see at the parks,” said Ng about participating in the panel and bringing fans into the Star Wars galaxy. “Virtual reality allows one to live their own story in this adventure, and it’s wonderful to be able to share our love of Batuu with our fans in person at Star Wars Celebration.”
