You may not know this, but one of the world’s greatest pianists, Lang Lang, is also one of the world’s biggest Disney fans who has had a lifelong dream of performing in front of a Disney castle. Well, that dream just came true at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort and we’re sharing a look at the historic performance and how the night also became a “dream come true” for some special young artists!
Lang Lang’s one-night-only concert on the stage of the Resort’s Castle of Magical Dreams was inspired by the theme song “Love the Memory” from the Hong Kong Disneyland Nighttime Spectacular “Momentous.”
And during the performance, the world-renowned pianist and string quartet played 14 classic Disney melodies like “Can You Feel the Love Tonight?” from the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “The Lion King,” “Let It Go” from Disney Animation’s “Frozen,” “It’s a Small World,” and many more.
“Having a live concert in front of a Disney castle has always been a dream of mine,” Lang Lang said. “I’m thrilled that my dream has come true at Hong Kong Disneyland! Disney’s stories and music have played a significant role in my childhood and inspired my musical journey greatly. Through Disney’s unique storytelling, I hope this show will offer the audience an innovative perspective to appreciate classical music.”
Mickey Mouse was the first to join Lang Lang on stage, unveiling the musical journey. Also at the concert, other fan favorite Disney characters made special appearances, including Elsa from the “Frozen” films, Miguel from the Pixar Animation Studios film “Coco”, Belle and Beast from Disney Animation’s “Beauty and the Beast” and many more.
“I was as excited as our guests who enjoyed this one-of-a-kind concert featuring the world-famous piano virtuoso Lang Lang at the Castle of Magical Dreams,” said Michael Moriarty, managing director, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort. “With Lang Lang’s magical interpretation of classic Disney melodies, accompanied by stunning visual effects and sophisticated Disney storytelling, the concert has elevated the already extraordinary entertainment experience at Hong Kong Disneyland to new heights.”
Following the concert, Lang Lang hosted an intimate conversation with a group of aspiring young artists from local schools and community organizations who are inspired by Lang Lang.
Among them were musicians with visual disabilities from the Arts With the Disabled Association Hong Kong, and a wish child from Make-A-Wish Hong Kong named Bells.
Bells is a dedicated fan of the world-renowned pianist. She is currently preparing for her performance diploma examination, and often turns to Lang Lang’s performances for inspiration, studying his skills and techniques to refine her own piano playing. Her admiration for Lang Lang runs deep and meeting him in person is a dream come true for her. Bells was particularly moved by Lang Lang’s rendition of the “Coco” theme song, “Remember Me,” during his performance.
During this exclusive meet-up, she asked Lang Lang for piano-playing tips and showcased the piece she’s preparing for the Make-A-Wish Gala Dinner in March. Inspired by Lang Lang, Bells felt encouraged to remain resilient in the face of challenges, drawing strength from the music and Lang Lang’s own journey.
A beautiful full circle moment as Lang Lang, once a young aspiring musician himself with big Disney dreams, is now inspiring young musicians to follow their musical dreams.
