The spirits have begun to materialize and Halfway to Halloween has arrived bringing news of Halloween fun to look forward to this fall at Disney destinations! Whether your plans include Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party at Disneyland Resort, Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party at Walt Disney World Resort or Halloween on the High Seas with Disney Cruise Line, the panelists are here with their best tips and tricks on creating a ghoulishly fantastic costume. And we know adults look forward to this holiday as much as the kids since it’s the only time they too can get in on the costume fun at a Disney park.

Dress Guidelines

During the year, costumes and costume masks may not be worn by guests 14 years of age and older. This rule applies at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. However, when Halloween arrives a spell is cast and there are exceptions to the rules at Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party and Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. Not sure what is acceptable when it comes to your costume? Make sure you check out the costume guidelines for Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

Weather

Let’s face it, it can be warm at Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort or aboard some Disney Cruise Line sailings during the Halloween season. And that is why our planDisney panelists remind guests that flexibility is key in selecting that perfect costume. Keep those costumes on the light side. Choose one with a soft, breathable fabric to help beat that hot sun.

Use What You Have

No need to buy a new costume! Look around your home to see what you can possibly create from your closet. Minnie Mouse ears with a red and white polka dot dress? We think you will be the cutest Minnie Mouse in town. White make-up, top hat, and white dress shirt? We see you grim grinning ghost! Even Halloween ears can make your everyday clothing look eerily festive!

The tiniest ones can enjoy costuming with something as simple as a onesie. Think Michael Darling is an easy pink onesie and a teddy bear. A red onesie and some spiked hair are all you need for a Jack-Jack costume. Pull a little red T-shirt over a yellow onesie, and you’ve got your own Pooh Bear. Everyday clothing is often more comfortable for little ones, which is a bonus for a long evening of fun.

Accessories Darling

Add the smallest accessory to your normal outfit and hocus pocus, you have yourself a Halloween costume. With a simple touch of wings to a white T-shirt and bibbidi bobbidi boo, you two can be a fairy! A pirate’s hat and yo-ho we spy Captain Jack! Wide-rimmed black glasses and even Edna Mode would be envious of your creativity.

Wardrobe Change

Sometimes even princesses need a wardrobe change. If you find yourself in a costume that could be cumbersome on attractions or a bit too warm for the sun, be sure to pack a change of clothes. This tip applies to the young and the young at heart.

Disneybounding

If you’re not the dressing-up type, we recommend Disneybounding as your favorite character. Still too much? Themed T-shirts work just as well as Jack Skellington’s plan to grab poor old Sandy Claws.

Spell Bounding Photo Locations

Foolish mortals know this auspicious occasion calls for some eerily fantastic photo opportunities to capture your costumes. Our panelists recommend a few iconic locations such as the Haunted Mansion, Main Street, U.S.A. in front of the Jack-O-Lanterns or the iconic Mickey Pumpkins, and in front of the pumpkin tree on Disney Cruise Line. Disney PhotoPass photographers can be found throughout the parks and ships to capture your costumed crew.
