We’re celebrating the Year of the Snake at both Shanghai Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland Resort! The sixth animal in the Chinese Zodiac, those born in the Year of the Snake are thought to be calm and rational. Not only does this time of year ring in all-new offerings at the parks, it’s also a special time of year, marking the end of winter and beginning of spring.

How can you celebrate Chinese New Year at Shanghai Disney Resort?

At Shanghai Disney Resort, Gary the snake from the upcoming Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Zootopia 2” is kicking off the legendary Spring Festival from January 15 through February 14, 2025. All around the resort, you’ll find snake-themed decorations, Chinese lanterns, seasonal entertainment and plenty of festive treats.

Over at the Gardens of Imagination, Gary is taking the spotlight as part of the main lantern decoration and is appearing in the Garden of the Twelve Friends, which has been transformed with celebratory decorations for the season.

How is Zootopia celebrating the new year at Shanghai Disneyland?

“Zootopia Lucky Year” is coming to Zootopia! During this new year celebration, residents of Zootopia have lent their hoofs, paws and claws by putting a spin on traditional festivities. All around this mammalian metropolis, you’ll find lanterns in various shapes and sizes – elephants, rabbits, gazelles – and even stickers on the windows and doors with animal-based new year puns.

Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde have even jazzed up their looks with crimson scarves to keep them warm in this chilly season. And in addition to the already adorable merchandise found in Zootopia, the 2025 Spring Festival Zootopia Collection features keychains, New Year red packets and other accessories.

What entertainment can you find during Chinese New Year at Shanghai Disneyland?

Spring Festival favorites have returned, including the “Spring Festival Drum Ceremony” and “Mickey Avenue Shanghai Swing.” We’re also thrilled to share that “The Adventure of Rhythm” has returned to the Storyhouse Stage just for the new year. Since its debut in summer 2024 and for a limited time, the thrilling indoor live stage show takes you on a musical journey around the world, combining different styles of music and live performances with beloved Disney stories and characters.

Where can you eat at Shanghai Disneyland?

The eats found in Shanghai during this season are unforgettable! All across the resort, you’ll find classic dishes brimming with the taste of new year, from Spring Festival family set menus and themed brunch at the Royal Banquet Hall to casual bites filled with festive touches, like the Mickey-shaped chocolate pieces that decorate select treats at CookieAnn Bakery Café and the monthly-exclusive ice cream flavors at Donald’s Dine ‘n Delights.

A selection of prosperous souvenirs have made their way to the resort, including the red and gold, gourd-shaped CookieAnn Hot Cup and a Duffy and Friends Popcorn Bucket depicting scenes of the friends celebrating the Spring Festival in their new outfits.

Where can you see characters at Shanghai Disneyland?

Some of your favorite characters are also switching up their looks for the new year! Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse are dressed up in festive red outfits emblazoned with dragon and phoenix elements believed to bring prosperity, and snake elements on their shoes to represent this year’s zodiac animal. More friends are also dressed in their new year best with auspicious elements. Duffy has a gourd pattern on his chest symbolizing fortune and wealth, while the rest of his friends are wearing clothes decorated with lucky elements like fishes, persimmons and butterflies. Over in the Hundred Acre Wood, Winnie the Pooh and his friends are embracing gold and red tones in their outfits too, switching their regular accessories for ones with a distinctive New Year feel.

Are there Chinese New Year fireworks at Shanghai Disney Resort?

“Spring Festival Celebration: ‘Our Families’” will return January 28 through February 12 at Shanghai Disney Resort! This year, the much-loved nighttime show will feature brand-new year of the snake touches and even Gary from “Zootopia 2” will make a special appearance in the projections.

Where can you buy Chinese New Year Merchandise at Shanghai Disneyland?

All around the resort, you’ll find new merchandise to celebrate Chinese New Year! From January 17 to February 16, celebrate Chinese New Year at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort! From the parks to the hotels, you’ll find snake-themed decor and special offerings celebrating the festive season.

Beginning on the first day of the new year, you may receive a Disney-themed red packet at the entrance of the park while supplies last. Containing a gold chocolate coin, plus dining and shopping vouchers, it’s a great way to start the year!

What entertainment can you find during Chinese New Year at Hong Kong Disneyland?

Kick off the year of the snake with the all-new “Mickey and Friends Year of the Snake Processional,” which features Goofy, dressed as the God of Fortune! The Chinese New Year edition of “Mickey & Friends Street Celebration” has made its way to Main Street, U.S.A. with Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and their friends bringing the joys of the new year.
